Becoming Employees’ Favourite HR? Why Not?

Being a human resource professional in a company is a special job since you have to keep the good relationships between employees. However, HR division or managers are the least likeable position within the company. On Quora, a user named Latris Asdi explained his discontent towards HR manager at the company he works at. He feels that his HR did not give clear information about job description or company regulations and liked to act arbitrarily.

However, there are perks of being an employees’ favourite HR. By becoming one, the human resources issues at your company can be maintained appropriately and in a lighter manner. Healthy employee inter-relationships can contribute to the advancement of your company. Here are some tips needed to be considered to be the employees’ favourite HR:

  1. Understand the employee problem and able to keep secrets

Some employees feel that HR division cannot stand with employees. HR professional just pay attention to the company and superior. Therefore, HR division should understand the employee problem by listen carefully and trying to solve problem if needed. HR division also should keep the secrets of the employee problem.

Once you do that, the employee will be feeling safe to confide their problem to you. As a result, you will create strong chemistry with employees and would be considered as someone who can be trusted.

  1. Give employees personal time effectively

According to 2020’s survey by Teman Bumil and Populix reported by Jawa Pos, of 1,024 mothers in Indonesia, 25% of 707 respondents said that they did not get their rights of maternity leave.

The survey conducted between 10 – 15 January 2020 discloses that 3% of employees admitted that they were not allowed to get pregnant during the working periods. Then. 17% of them did not get maternity leave for three months. There are 30% of the respondents did not get their full salary during maternity leave.

If an employee applies for paid leave for reasonable personal interests, you must respond immediately. Don’t let the employees feel uncomfortable for wanting what is rightfully theirs. Employees may take the company to legal institutions when their rights are not granted. It could backfire the company because it could worsen the company's image on public and media.

  1. Give rewards to employees

Do not forget to give a reward to excellent employee. For example, employee who always arrives on time and who manages to increase product sales. With the rewards, employees will be more enthusiastic as they feel appreciated at the company.

For example, Traveloka, in 2020 provided several reward options for excellent employees. The company gave them compliments, free holidays, gift vouchers, added paid leave, trophies or certificates, and gifts.

  1. Multitasking

In addition to the employee recruitment process, HR professional also has other jobs. They may arrange company regulations, calculate employee salaries and attendance report, and hold a training. Therefore, HR division should have multitasking skills to avoid burnout.

If employees have a good relationship with their HR managers, support each other, and understand the job description, a comfortable vibe can be created. It also shows your effort in improving the quality of the workforce and the company’s performance.
